DING DOG - BULLHIDE DOG COLLAR REVIEW

Pomeranians, Sophie & Gul'Dan, have been tesing out Ding Dog's Braided Bullhide Dog Collar for a couple months and the results are in. I've reviewed the bullhide leather dog collars based on quality, style, and longevity on a scale of 1-10.
What really prompted me to want to try out these collars was last summer Sophie had a giant chunk of her mane missing from her last rolled leather collar. It looked like a botched grooming job or a matt cut out. The collar was a traditional rolled hard leather by Fox & Hound (no longer made) and while it was good quality leather, the heaviness and stiffness of the product resulted in breakage in her mane. She was collarless all fall and winter while growing her hair back. Happy to say she shed her coat for the summer and no breakage in her fur chest like last summer! This collar is much lighter and more form fitting than the hard leather collars she has previously worn to prevent matting. It's the perfect alternative to a rolled leather collar for a long haired dog like Sophie who is a Pomeranian.

QUALITY
Bullhide is a soft but durable leather making it ideal for dog leashes and dog collars. For a leash, it provides a soft handle without comprising the strength of the product. For a collar, it's much softer and malleable for your dog to break in than hard leather. Which makes it great for a dog with delicate skin. These collars are handmade in the USA with a simple nickel or brass buckle style closure. Overall, bullhide is a top notch material for quality and they are very well made leather collars. Leather is always a popular choice for quality dog collars and leashes.

For a dog that's a puller, since these are a little softer, it will stretch out over time. You will have to use a smaller hole on the collar eventually. Although not more than you would expect from a non-buckle style nylon collar that needs adjusting over time. Ideally, for a dog thats a big puller you would want a training harness like the easy walk, instead of clipping to this collar.

RATING: 9.5

STYLE
Sophie & Gul'Dan have matching sets. Sophie is pink and black, while Gul'dan is blue and black but they come in so many colors. You can choose two colors for your Ding Dog bullhide dog collar, allowing you to get really creative! The style is a classic and timeless look that you can get really fun with because of all the bright colors available. There are also matching leashes that Ding Dog makes in 2-6ft. It's such a shame that you really can't see them on Sophie & Gul'Dan, but you still get a glimpse of the beautiful collar underneath all that big fluff. It's the sacrifice you make with big fluffy pomeranian hair - you can't always see the pretty collar. If I could give more than a 10 for style I would!

LONGEVITY
Bullhide is a long lasting leather material. This is the type of dog collar you will have for many years with some basic care. (unless you really have a rough housing dog!)  Unlike a patterned nylon, you don't have to worry about it getting dingy and dirty looking either. Clean off with damp or dry soft cloth or microfiber towel, as needed. Not reccommended to wear while swimming in the lake or pool!

RATING: 9

FINAL RATING
Overall, Ding Dog's Braided Bullhide Leather Collars are an amazing value based on the quality, style and longevity. Priced at $31.99 on etsy, these collars will last a long time. They provide the perfect alternative for long haired dogs (shih tzu, yorkie, maltese, pomeranian, havanese, tibetian spaniel, husky, king charles, etc) to prevent matting, great for a dog with delicate skin and are super stylish. Caution for dogs who are big pullers because it will eventually stretch, but other than that, its versatile! Defiantly a new Fox Fav! I have no doubt Sophie and Gul'Dan will be enjoying these collars for a long time. I would be a repeat customer for sure!!

READER INFO: Ding Dog gifted two Bullhide Leather Braided Dog Collars that I decided to do a review on. The information listed is based on my own opinion and use of the products on my two Pomernians. Ding Dog contributed to the Fox & Feline Blog Launch Party. They donated three leash and collar sets for a free raffle that was open to the public for pet owners to enjoy.

Featured Review

There is only one way to describe the products of Fox n' Feline... They are, literally, the cat's meow! Our kitty was head-over-heels in love with everything the minute we opened up the box. Thank you for such adorable, quality cat toys for our little lady to play with! I will be back again and again. I am convinced that every cat should own a 'nip kicker, and I plan on making sure the kitties I know do! ;)
