I've been continuing my exploits of making homemade pet treats. As promised I am posting up the recipe and results for the pet treat liver that we recently made. The liver is going over very well with both the dogs and cats. Warning - it's pretty gross though! I've actually cut out many pictures since I just think it looks so icky. Maybe I'm just a bit squeamish but I made my husband cut it up. The recipe is very easy. The pros to using liver is that it's inexpensive, high value, and it's nutritionally dense. Since it is nutritionally rich and organ meat, (organ meat shouldn't be more than 10% of your pets diet) you want to use sparing. I recommend using as a training treat or extra special snack. Also keep in mind treats should never be more than 5-10% of your dog's calories/diet with variety in the treats. INGREDIANTS 1lb Beef Liver Or Another Animal Liver (Chicken, Turkey, etc) INSTRUCTIONS Using slightly frozen liver will make it easier to cut. Wash liver and pat dry. Using a knife, cut your liver to the size you want your treats. We cut small pieces about 1/2-1 inch in size. Place parchment paper on your dehydrator. (optional) Place your liver on the trays so that they are not touching. Set Temperature to 160 degrees or the recommended temperature for meat on your dehydrator. Dehydrate for 10-12 hours. After dehydrating you can also crisp in the oven for 10 minutes if desired. The end result is some very nice and crisp liver treats! Store in an airtight container in the fridge, you can also freeze if making larger batches. Cut to size and space out on your trays. We cut in squares (ish) but you can also make strips for a larger dog. You do not HAVE to use parchment paper, but I was so grossed out by it that I wanted to. Store in a glassware or airtight container. I recommend glass in general always because plastic harbors bacteria.

Featured ReviewThere is only one way to describe the products of Fox n' Feline... They are, literally, the cat's meow! Our kitty was head-over-heels in love with everything the minute we opened up the box. Thank you for such adorable, quality cat toys for our little lady to play with! I will be back again and again. I am convinced that every cat should own a 'nip kicker, and I plan on making sure the kitties I know do! ;) Copyrights of Fox & Feline (2025) email [email protected] for permissions.
